Overview
This Privacy Policy explains what personal information the Haunt Slider Showdown (the "Service") collects, how we use it, who we share it with, and what choices you have. By using the Service you consent to the practices described here. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
Information we collect
- Account information: email address, password (stored as a one-way hash), display name, and the phone number you submit for verification.
- Slider profile information: first name, last name, stage name, city and state, social handles, biography, headshot, gallery photos, and gallery video links.
- Voting activity: the matchup, the competitor you voted for, whether the vote was free or purchased, and the timestamp.
- Purchase information: our payment processor handles all card data; we receive a purchase identifier, amount, currency, billing region, and customer reference — never your card number.
- Support communications: the messages you send through support tickets and any attachments you include.
- Announcement signups: the email address you submit, plus a record of whether you've unsubscribed.
- Technical data: device, browser, approximate location derived from IP, and basic interaction logs needed to operate, secure, and debug the Service.
How we use information
- Operate the competition: render brackets, count votes, display profiles, surface matchups.
- Authenticate you, verify your phone or email, and protect the Service against fraud and abuse.
- Process vote purchases and remit charitable donations.
- Send transactional messages (verification codes, receipts, support replies).
- Send announcement and round-update emails only to people who opt in, with a one-click unsubscribe link.
- Improve the Service, troubleshoot bugs, and analyze aggregate usage.
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms and Competition Rules.
How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We share only what is necessary with vetted service providers acting on our behalf, including:
- Hosting, database, and storage infrastructure providers.
- The payment processor that handles vote-bundle purchases.
- The SMS provider used to deliver phone-verification codes.
- The email provider used for transactional and opt-in announcement messages.
- Analytics and error-reporting tools, limited to what is needed to keep the Service running.
We may also disclose information when required by law, to respond to a valid legal request, to protect the rights, property, or safety of users or the public, or in connection with a corporate transaction such as a merger or acquisition (in which case the receiving party must honor this policy).
Slider profile content is public
Approved slider profiles — including stage name, city/state, bio, photos, and video links — are intentionally public so fans can vote. Do not submit anything you would not want associated with you publicly.
Cookies and similar technologies
We use cookies and local storage to keep you signed in, remember your preferences, and measure aggregate usage. You can clear cookies in your browser at any time; doing so will sign you out and may reset preferences.
Data retention
We retain account information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the Service. Votes and purchase records are retained for the full season plus a reasonable archival period for transparency and dispute resolution. Approved slider profiles may remain in public season archives even after a profile is removed from active competition.
Your rights and choices
- You can review and update most profile data from your dashboard.
- You can request a copy of your data, correction, or deletion of your account by contacting support.
- You can unsubscribe from announcement emails using the link in any announcement message.
- Depending on your residence, you may have additional rights under GDPR, UK GDPR, the CCPA/CPRA, or similar laws. We will respond to verified requests within the time required by applicable law.
Children's privacy
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can delete it. Sliders must be 18 or older to register or compete.
Security
We use reasonable technical, administrative, and organizational measures to protect personal information against unauthorized access, loss, misuse, and alteration. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
International users
The Service is operated from the United States. If you access the Service from outside the United States, you understand that your information will be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States and in any other country where our providers operate.
Changes
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be posted on this page and, where reasonable, announced via email. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page indicates the current version.
